Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)

Established in 1975, PNCB is dedicated to providing the highest quality certification services for nursing professionals who provide care for children and adolescents. Help certifying organizations better understand public perceptions of certified nursing care with this brief survey.PNCB Logo

PNCB board certified nurses earn the credential Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) when they pass a rigorous experience-based exam. CPNs must annually document activities that enhance their continuing competency to maintain CPN status. Today nearly 20,000 CPNs are working in settings such as hospitals, public health clinics, schools, home health care, pediatrician offices, military bases, or private organizations. When your child receives care from a CPN, they have an expert in their corner!

PNCB's respected Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) exams validate entry-level skills and knowledge of advanced practice nursing graduates called Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) who have earned masters, postmasters, or doctoral degrees from Acute Care and/or Primary Care PNP programs. If your child has been seen by a pediatric nurse practitioner, chances are that PNP is certified by PNCB.

PNCB's newest way to highlight the experts in your community is though the Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist (PMHS) credential. PMHS specialty board certification validates the knowledge, skills, and expertise of primary care providers in the early identification, intervention, and collaboration of care of children and adolescents with mental and behavioral health concerns.
